Well I made it to recovery week! I ended up missing my Friday & Saturday workout, but somewhat made up for it ripping out a sun room in our new house, and doing tons of yard work lol. Not the same as Insanity, but better then sitting on my butt!

So this week is recovery week. I was really not looking forward to doing the same workout all week so I decided to get back into and just do a Max Workout/Recovery Hybrid.

So basically this week M-W-F I am doing the Max workouts and T-Thurs I will do the recovery.

Today I did Max Interval Circuit! Wow I got my butt handed to me. Just when I thought I was back in shape lol. I actually skipped about 10 minutes of it because I was short on time. The one good thing I will say is even though I was tired I was able to take a short 5-10 break and get right back in. I was not feeling the old “I might die” feeling that I used to get. Now I remember why these are max workouts. This workout was 59 minutes long as well so I have to figure out how to shave 10 minutes off since I only have so much time to do the workouts.

I am really looking forward to the Max Workouts. I have to stay I have been getting stale on the first set of workouts. This is only because I have done them so many times in a hodge podge sort of way. Sure the Max Workouts are going to whoop me, but they are new and fresh so I will bust them out.

As far as diet, the weekend has been a bit sloppy, but not at my worst so as long as I keep busting out Insanity I will be fine. I Really think next week when I start the full Max workouts I am really going to try and clean up the diet for a good 2 weeks and see if I can get the abs showing

Awwww Yeah…. I am on week 4 of the Insanity Workout and I am feeling great! The workouts are getting easier and I am feeling much more solid. Those little ab muscles are starting to show up again and my core is so tight.

I have not been following the workouts to a tee, but I have done 90% of them. I have been trying to do the Upper Body training on Saturday, but have only managed to do that once.

The other thing is my eating. I have been really good during the week and on the weekends and I have bee cheating. again like I had said in my last post I have been cheating, but not to my normal extent. I figure I work out so hard, why not eat what I want for the most part on the weekends If I really wanted to shred more pounds I would clean the diet up on the weekends and cut out beer, but since the warm weather is here I see beer on the menu for awhile

In the Max workouts I think I will try to clean up more, but we shall see. That leads me to another topic. The Insanity Workouts. I have gone through the first month so many times on and off that yes… the workouts are becoming a bit boring to me. I will get through this week then there is the recovery week which I am not sure what I will do there… then there is Max workouts which I look forward to because they are all newer to me.

After I finish this up I have been looking at the Tapout XT workout program. Check out some more info http://www.gettingstrongnow.com/tapout-xt/ This looks really awesome. Can it compete with Insanity? Is it a good Insanity alternative? I am sure it is and I really think I might give it a go, but we will have to see how I finish up with Insanity. Stay tuned and get stronger now!

I only bring this topic up because my workouts were catching up with me. My days have been nuts with my 2 1/2 year old and the new baby.

It pretty much goes like this, wake up feed kids, get ready for work… go to work… bust out an Insanity workout at lunch, get home feed kids, play with kids, clean kids, get 2 1/2 year old ready for bed then spend some time with wife and baby, and maybe even some TV. Before you know it, it is 11PM. Yikes where did the time go. I could tell this was catching up with me. In general having 2 kids under 3 is tiring, but throw in some Insanity workouts and well you know how it goes.

The past few days I really made sure I was in bed before 10. What a difference that extra hour makes. It really does.

I just wanted to make a point with this post. If you are working out and not feeling refreshed or more energetic then take a look at your sleep patterns. If you are only getting 4-6 hours of sleep a night then it is not enough. Try and see if you can get at least 8 hours a night for a few nights and then tell me how you feel. We always forgot about how important sleep is, but we have to remember that is how our body heals and when we are doing Insanity we are really ripping our body up to get into great shape.

Get some sleep would ya!!

In fact today as I was finishing Pure Cardio in my office a co worker stopped by. He is at least 70 pounds over weight and I have been trying to get him to do something for years!

So I showed him the Pure Cardio video and he was like “these people are all already in shape, how can a fat guy like me do this?”

I started to explain that I was in shape when I started Insanity and I still got sore and struggled in the beginning. I also explained that the people in these videos were in the trial groups and that this was prob the 3rd or 4th time they have done Insanity.

He was still skeptical about doing it so I made the following points

Even if you are a lot heavier you go at your own pace.

It will take even “in shape” people 2 weeks to get their bearings.

I said even if you did just the warm up it is more then you have done in years

Doing it at your own pace will build your energy levels up.

My Final point about Doing Insanity if you are over weight

I explained to him that hey maybe Insanity is not for him right now and maybe he should try P90X. The fact is this. He is looking for excuses. Heck even a 20 minute walk a day is more then he has been doing and it will burn extra calories and get him moving. The main take away is do something and ya know what if you jump into Insanity then take it at your own pace, but please give it at least 2 weeks to see how you feel.

Shaun T Quote – “I’m not trying to hurt you people, I’m just trying to make you better!”

Lets go folks DIG DEEP, stop the excuses and get stronger now! I don’t care if it is Insanity or a new 20 minute evening walk. Do something to raise your heart level.

The weekend came and went and so did my eating and drinking lol.

OK so I was not bad as usual. I have been looking at it like this. If I can eat really clean during the week and do my Insanity Workouts then slipping a bit on the weekend is OK. The one thing I am learning about my eating habits is MODERATION!!!

So here is how the weekend went and how it could have went.

Friday Night – Well Friday night is always Pizza night. So usually its 4 slices and 2 beers, then ice cream at this great local place. This time I ordered some Fish and Broccoli and had one slice of pizza and one beer. We did get ice cream, but instead of my Large or Medium I got a small.

Saturday – Typically its the snacking during the day around the house that gets me. Lots of useless carb snacking. I make sure I have good snacks around. Nuts, raisins, bananas , apples etc… I usually eat some tuna fish and avocado for lunch. Usually we go out on sat night for dinner or have people over. We had people over this time. I had about 3 beers which I guess is average for me, but no ice cream that night lol. As for dinner where I would normally order some greasy fatty meal, I ordered a nice grill chick sandwich so that was a good compromise.

Sunday – Usually my breakfasts is always a nice healthy one and we usually do lunch out on Sunday and that is where I normally get some taylor ham sandwich with fries or something similar. This time I did a buffalo chicken wrap, but with a side a veggies. Sure not the greatest choice, but at least I did not go nuts with tons of fries. For dinner we typically do burgers so we did and I fried up some veggies on the grill as well. I normally eat two burgers which I did, but this time I only had one bun so that helps a bit.

So there you have it. Not super duper healthy eating, but decent eating with compromise. I would venture to guess if I had eating what I normally would have, there could have been an extra 1000 calories in there easily. Now that adds up!

Ok off to do my Pure Cardio workout!

I love putting those X’s in the box! This was week one so I did not do the fit test since I wanted a full workout on Monday although the fit test does give you a workout. Tomorrow I will prob do the upper weight training video which is awesome by the way.

It was a tough week, but better then the first time I ever did Insanity. I was still taking mini 5-10 second breaks during certain exercises, but that is all good I was dripping with sweat during ever workout. I am sore, but I feel more solid already.

I cannot wait for what week 2 has in store. This working out in my office at work is pretty good. I am now able to get more sleep… well when my 2 year old is not waking me up It really gives me a good boost to the second half of the day.

How about you? How is Insanity going for you?

I am on day 3 of the Insanity Workout and I am feeling a bit sore. Today was Cardio Recovery and I forgot how much it kicks your butt. All those pulses!! Ugh no fun at all, but you still get a good sweat going and after the first two days my body needed the stretching. I think these recovery workouts are nicely placed to help you get to the next level, since you can’t keep beating up yourself. I remember back to the first time I did Insanity. I could barely walk after the first few days. This time around I am sore, but not that sore and still appreciate the cardio recovery day.

I am still continuing to drink my Shakeology. I have chocolate and green berry. To be honest I am not a big fan of the Greenbery Shake. Today I had Greenberry which I added 1 banana and a spoonful of almond butter which made it better. I can’t really drink it alone. Chocolate on the other hand I love by itself or with a banana and almond butter.

The next thing I am going to try is adding some coconut oil. I will let you know.

I know a handful of you have kids, so you know how hard it can be to not only find the time to workout, but the energy. With our 3 week old and me doing one nightly feeding it has been real tough to get into the swing of things. Not to mention my 2 year old decides that 5am-6am-ish is TV time with dad. Now don’t get me wrong I treasure that time and it is great, but it leaves me extra tired.

I know in a few months it will all level out, but my biggest thing is that when I am not working out I am usually eating like crap! Ugh… no self control. I am trying. It really is amazing how much 3 weeks can ruin the hard workouts and good eating you were doing for the prior few months. So what am I to do?

Workout at Work! What? Yea that’s right, I figured instead of taking my hour lunch to just sit around, eat and talk I will drop some Insanity Workouts into the mix. That is great, but Chris “where do you do them?” I am glad you asked lol. I am doing them right in my office. Lucky for me I am an IT manager and have about a 400 square foot office to hold all my equipment and servers etc… So it is a perfect place to do Insanity. In fact the ceiling is prob about 10 foot and I was able to do more then usually.

I taped the insanity workout calendar to my desk and started Plyo/Cardio today. It was tough, but of course I got through it like all the other starts to Insanity. So this is what I will be doing prob until June.

I will keep you posted. Dig Deep! oh and it better

Man it is amazing what 10 days can do to you. First off… We had our second son Westin on March 21. I am now a 33 year old father of 2! Wow that is nuts, but awesome of course. It is now settling in that it is going to be harder to find time to workout. I know things will settle down, but wow these kids are work lol. I had said I wanted to start P90X2 on April 1, but that just did not happen. My goal was to do a week of Insanity this week and start P90X2 next week. EHHH… WRONG! lol, my 2 year old had something to say about that when he had me up at 6AM and would not go back to sleep.

Anyways back to my 10 days. Wow so I fell off the bandwagon big time since Westin was born. I think I got one workout in which was not that great and I have just been eating crap! Not real crap, just junk foods I fall into this mode where it is either eat so good or just eat everything and anything in my sight. It is like I see snacks and I am like I must eat now! Let’s get ice cream… lets eat out… man what is happening. Anyone else out there like that?

It has only been 10 days, but I can def feel a bit of my man boobage creeping back in and I hate man boobage. Love woman boobage… hate man boobage

I think the trick for me is to find a balance. I am slowly realizing that going gung ho with either eating clean or bad is just not the way to go. Where is my happy place?

Anyways that is where I am at right now. Gonna try to bust out some Insanity tonight and see where that takes me.
