Started Cutting Out Sugar

Sup folks! Things are going well on the paleo diet and the 30 day challenge Qcrossfit.com is holding.

Yesterday I DUG DEEP as Shaun T would say in The Insanity Workout

I pretty much cut out all sugar from my diet. The biggest thing was sugar in my coffee. I realized on average I drank 3 cups of coffee a day which included heavy cream & either one tablespoon of sugar “if at home” or 3 packets of sugar if at work.

So really I have just with my coffee about 3 Table Spoons of sugar a day.  That doesn’t count the days I get Dunkin Donuts and tell them light and sweet ;-)

So from what i have read there are 15 calories in 1 Tablespoon of sugar.

I read this online…
“The average daily sugar consumption for an American: 22 teaspoons (330 calories, yikes!)
Consuming 330 calories a day, equals 2,130 calories per week, equals 9,240 calories per month. Trying to lose weight, specifically body fat? Consider that there are 3,500 calories in a pound of body fat. Doing the math, this is an excess of almost two pounds per month.”

  • That really adds up! Now my sugar consumption has really not been that bad… well my refined sugar. The sugar with my coffee was really the only processed sugar I was eating. The rest coming from fruit.
  • So why cut it out? For one I am trying to get my body burning fat like it is supposed to and the more I read the more I see that sugar ain’t so hot for ya!
  • Also I have been eating really really well and I really just want to turn it up a notch and see what I can achieve.
I will tell you this, by the time it was 7pm last night I was a bit cranky which is what I was told can happen when you cut sugar out from your diet. It hit me all of a sudden to, I was irritable and just cranky! I thought to myself why am I acting like this lol. Anyways other people say that happens to them as well as headaches so just be aware that this may happen to you if you try.

My Paleo Breakfast This Week

turkey loaf paleoAnyways so here is what I made for breakfast this week. It is not cooked so don’t be afraid! If you click on the image it will pop up bigger. You can see a lot of colors in there. I wanted to get a good amount of veggies in there, since it can be hard to eat veggies. So I blended 2 green peppers, one sweet onion, bout 6 slices of yellow squash, and a ton of cherry tomatoes. Well the tomatoes made it pretty watery, so next time I may cut back on them or maybe squeeze some of the juice from them. So I blended them with my Sweet Ninja 1100 Blender ;-) then poured into a bowl with about 1.3 pounds of ground turkey. Added spices, garlic powder, salt, pepper… mixed it all up and then baked at 375 for about 30 minutes.  I checked on it after about 15 minutes and there was so much liquid, I had to pour some out. All in all it came out nice! It even tasted good lol. Next time I need to use about half the tomatoes. It is a quick fix for breakfast and has some veggies in it already. I also have some other veggies on the side with it as well. This week is porta-bella mushrooms and yellow squash.

My Paleo Lunch This Week

paleo chicken lunchMy Monday usually starts with me heading to Trader Joe’s to pick up my grub for the week.

They have this new chicken that comes cooked and bagged separately. all natural no crazy stuff in them and they taste great!  So I grab 4 avocados and prepare them with some salt, pepper, lime, and lemon and it is good to go. I also grabbed a few peppers and sliced them up to have with lunch and snack on as well. I also grabbed an assortment of frozen veggies to have with lunch. Today it was asparagus. Don’t let the small amount fool you, I snacked on about half of it walking back to my office ;-)

So that’s it! I dunno does it look exciting to you? I feel good… I have energy… I am not crashing after I eat so all in all I am loving it. My pallet is also changing and really tasting the flavors and what not.
